Meet The Tutor

Hi Everyone! I am Laura Truepenny, an experienced primary school teacher, dyslexia specialist, forest school leader and children’s author.

I have taught children for over a decade, from ages 0-14! I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher, so at college completed a National Diploma in Early Years. After college, I had a gap year where I worked as a teaching assistant in Year 1 and 5 and sailed the Atlantic for a month. After that epic adventure, I went to university where I gained a BEd (hons) in Primary Education.

I worked for MoD in Germany for 7 years, where I completed a Middle Leaders Qualification, and was maths leader for several years. During that time, I set up Truependous Times Tables, a website to support teachers with maths teaching from Year 1 – Year 6.

I set up Truependous Tutoring at the beginning of the Global Pandemic in 2020, to provide a consistent education to children to enable them to access learning from the comfort of their own home. 

Over the last five years, my business has evolved. Alongside setting up a childminding business called Truependous Tots which ran successfully for three years, I have taught over 150 children in online groups, face-to-face groups and 1:1s, from the U.K. and all over the world.

In 2023, I added a slogan ‘Be Truependous’ as my tutoring business evolved into more than tutoring! These days, along with creating picture books and flashcard resources, I predominantly teach groups of home-educated children face-to-face, as well as running a games club.

In summer 2023, I achieved my Accredited Level 5 – Certificate in Dyslexia; Literacy, Support and Intervention and absolutely love teaching children with suspected or diagnosed dyslexia, to support them in reaching their full potential. In May 2024, I started my Level 7 qualification so that I can diagnose dyslexia.

I absolutely love working with young people – they are a constant source of inspiration to me and I feel absolutely privileged to be in a position where I can have a positive impact on so many awesome young people. What could be more important than supporting the youth of today to unlock their creativity and imaginations?

As Albert Einstein once famously said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, but imagination encircles the world.”

In this changing world we live in, there is a great need for children to be inquisitive reasoned thinkers and problem solvers. That’s why my group lessons, 1:1 tuition and board game club aim to build confidence, resilience, independence and enhance young people’s innate sense of wonder and inquisitiveness!
